Fine Art Dramatic Bridal Portrait in Downtown Seattle

I have kept my eye on this spot numerous times throughout the past couple of years. Because right across the street is photographers' heaven - Glazer's Camera, Seattle's biggest local camera store and rentals. Before this session, the idea of doing an actual shoot here has surfaced in my mind for a while, but I never got a chance to execute the shoot along with finding the right people.

However, when Janice told me that she would like to start her pre-wedding photoshoot at UW Medicine in South Lake Union, it seemed like the stars were finally aligning for me. Janice worked at an architecture firm and this building was the project she's been working on. So when she brought up the idea of incorporating the architecture in their wedding portraits, I was thrilled to help. If you know me well, you know I love incorporating fine architecture with my photoshoots. This photoshoot was totally up my alley.

And if anyone is going to have their wedding photoshoot there, it was going to be Janice. This was her project where she has spent countless hours on it. To be able to wear her wedding dress at her job meant a lot to her, so the idea could not have been more perfect. And I just knew her bridal portrait would turn out epic.

Shooting with Janice and her husband Kelvin was a lot of fun. The site had a lot of diverse backdrops for the photoshoot, making for lots of artistic shots. In the beginning, I spent a lot of time on one side of the glass building. But I walked around the building to look for more compositional creativity. When I got around to the other side of the building, I saw something entirely different.

I was so excited about the discovery and I called out for Janice to come over. I knew this would be the perfect bridal portrait tribute for Janice. I quickly found the center point and positioned the bride in the middle. The symmetry of the buildings from both sides provided an astounding composition for me to work with. The leading lines brought the attention straight to the subject. By turning the exposure down for the ambiance, I was able to make a dramatic and moody photograph for the bride-to-be.
