ABOUT Amy & Johnny'S WEDDING

This wedding had been a long time coming. Delayed by Covid for almost three years, the celebration finally found its home in Hawaii — the natural middle point between the US and Taiwan. For Amy and Johnny, it was never really a question.

This one was personal.

It's not every day you get to photograph one of your childhood best friends. Amy and I have known each other since elementary school. Through all of teenagehood and early adulthood, she kept her relationships close to the chest. Every time I'd ask, the answer was the same: you don't need to meet him. This isn't the one.

Then Johnny came along. She introduced him proudly. No hesitation. I knew right then.

When Amy & Johnny got engaged and started their destination wedding planning in Hawaii, there was no doubt in my mind how significant and beautiful this wedding was going to be. Of course I accepted the honor of being her wedding photographer.

But that wasn't the only thing on my plate. I was also tasked with being the officiant for the couple. And managing my videography team throughout the entire day. The pressure mounted immensely — and so did the meaning behind it all.

It turned out to be everything I hoped it would be. Old friends from middle school and high school filling the room. Decades of shared history in one place. And then there was Jamie — Amy and Johnny's daughter, who had just turned one — making the whole celebration feel even more alive. She didn't just attend the wedding. She owned it.

Congratulations, Amy and Johnny. This one meant everything.
